The Power to Overrule
In the courtroom of the mind, we often feel like passive observers as old habits and limiting beliefs serve as judge and jury. We tell ourselves, "I want to be calm," or "I am moving toward health," only to have a sudden wave of anxiety or an old pattern jump up to object. For many, these internal "objections" feel final.
But as hypnotherapists, we teach a life-changing truth: You have the authority to overrule.
When we enter a trance state, we bypass the critical filter—that loud, legalistic part of the conscious mind that often blocks the subconscious exactly when we need to anchor change and dismantle a negative habit. In this sacred space of the subconscious, we can present new "evidence" of our strength, our worth, and our capacity for healing.
When an old program insists, "This is how it has always been," we use the power of suggestion to overrule that outdated rule. Let's be honest—for most of us, this is easier said than done. Lifelong repetition and deep-seated beliefs stand in our way. However, with imagination, visualization, and emotional connection, we can overcome these old habits and replace them with new ones. It works—if you truly desire it. Your desire is the engine that brings results.
Mind Over Matter: The Path to Controlling Impulses
The more we are present—the more conscious and coherent we are in the "HERE and NOW"—the better we can control the impulses that come with withdrawal, whether it is compulsive shopping, overeating, smoking, or gambling. All addictions and problems are rooted in the subconscious mind. As the saying goes, "It's all in your head"—and it truly is.
Mind over matter. It is vital to learn how to control your mind so that it does not control you. It is possible. Monks say, "Watch your mind," whenever a person loses their presence. Thought loops are powerful and persistent; many people struggle to stop the constant flow of thinking (a theme Eckhart Tolle writes about so masterfully).
The HMICP Technique: Thought-Surrender
I would like to share a technique I call the Surrender Technique. You can try this during meditation or self-hypnosis (it is best to record this on your phone and listen back):
"Any thought that surfaces—a memory, a question, or a to-do list—is simply energy trying to create a loop. You do not need to fight it, engage with it, or judge it. Instead, acknowledge the thought, label it simply 'Thought,' and visualize placing it on a soft, white cloud high above you. Watch that cloud drift effortlessly away, dissipating completely into the clear, expansive sky.
You are choosing to occupy the powerful space of Presence, the void between the past and the future. Use the energy you save by letting the thought go and channel it directly into the rhythmic pulse of your coherence anchor; let your mind rest and let your heart lead.
Now, sink deeper and deeper into this calm state... letting the outside world fade away... your body resting completely... heavy and relaxed... while your mind becomes clear, focused, and wonderfully receptive to positive change."
The Symphony of Heart and Brain
You stand at the threshold of an integrated path toward Coherence—the balance between your heart and your brain. When they are in sync (synchronized), they execute your every command or desire with laser precision. It is a state of perfect harmony, like a symphony where all your internal parts tune into one rhythmic, powerful frequency.
Allow your awareness to drift gently into the present moment—into the POWER OF NOW. Now... do not look for a place; look for a feeling. A feeling of stability, profound balance, and intuitive clarity. That feeling is your starting point... the essence of coherence.
